Welcome to a new section on the Raider's web site: Home Decorating Ideas with the Raider. If Martha Stewart can tell you how to decorate your home, so can I! But remember, the advice on this page is worth precisely what you have paid for it, nothing! Here are some tried and true decorating tips I've used in my own home. Feel free to use them. If they work for you, please let me know. All my tips are for those on a tight budget, like me.

Dear Raider - I have really ugly kitchen appliances that I can't replace because I don't have the money to after buying my home (or because I rent my pad & the landlord won't replace them). They work just fine, but I cannot stand the color. What can I do? -Signed Money Impaired Dear Money Impaired - Check out my helpful What to do with kitchen appliances that work well, but you can't stand the color/appearance. Well, if you're like the Raider, you don't have a lot of extra money around. I've got a kitchen full of fully working appliances with nothing wrong with them other than the ugly Harvest Gold color. As you might have guessed by now, I like unusual things and looks. So, I kept the ugly appliances, but covered them with magnets! You can find magnets anywhere. I found them at thrift shops, vacations, freebies, and of course, donations from friends and family. Magnets are great because you can keep on rearranging them in anyway that you like; they won't permanently mark up the appliances; and even better, if you have to replace the appliance, you can transfer them in their entirety! Be creative. You can build a neat collection this way. You can also make your own magnets from magazines and magnet strips you can buy in most craft stores and/or larger office supply stores. If you like, you can keep to a specific theme. My theme was to cover as much of the refrigerator as possible. If you decide to make your own magnets, make sure you cover the end result with clear contact paper or some other protector so that ordinary kitchen mess doesn't accidentally mar your beautiful creation! |
